The acoustician's armory for modeling radiation of sound in enclosed spaces has traditionally been limited to the use of scale modeling, image theory, ray tracing, and the consideration of only some of the enclosure boundaries. Acoustic finite-element analysis is now reaching maturity and offers the designer of acoustic spaces the potential to produce exact computer models. The finite-element technique is discussed as applied to acoustic spaces, illustrating the facility to model complex structures, absorption, and multiple sources.
