Wavetable Matching Synthesis of Dynamic Instruments with Genetic Algorithms

Document Thumbnail

A method is introduced for finding the minimal set of wavetables necessary to model the full pitch range of an instrument. The method extends a genetic-algorithm-based method for matching individual tones. Results are given for the English horn, the trombone, and the Chinese erhu. It is also described how to avoid potential wavetable aliasing, and an extension of the technique to model dynamics and articulations is presented.
