Single-Ended Wide-Range Electrostatic Tweeters with High Efficiency and Improved Dynamic Range

Document Thumbnail

With the use of a small negative feedback electrode to control the gain of a driving amplifier, a single-ended extended-range electrostatic tweeter can have very low distortion and improved response linearity. A mathematical model which yields a network with equivalent frequency response and predictable distortion is developed. It is used to design a 30% efficient tweeter with 1 w peak acoustic output at 200 cps and only 600 v polarizing potential. Test methods using random noise generators, spectrum analyzers, and weighted response measurements are also described.
