A new noise-level criterion and measurement technique, tempered by the effect of home-listening-room noise, is used to predict the audibility of the noise levels in a number of recording facilities. It is shown that NC, PNC, or RC methods are not accurate enough in assessing noise audibility, given the high cost of creating very quiet environments.
