A PC-based measuring system for acoustic scale-model testing is presented and the advantages and limitations of binaural hearing are discussed through the authors' experience in the acoustic design of auditoriums. The audition check of detrimental echoes by binaural reproduction of the impulse response is one of the main features of the test. A presentation of synthesized music and speech, which was obtained by the convolution of the impulse response and a dry source, has been found to be of insufficient fidelity to estimate the acoustics of an auditorium.
