Computation of Diffraction for Loudspeaker Enclosures

Document Thumbnail

A fast numerical algorithm for computing edge diffractions from an arbitrarily shaped plannar baffle witha round piston source is presented. The method is based on reducing the computation of near-field sound pressure in the plane of the piston to integration over only one variable. This method is used in a program for interactive computer-aided design of multiway, multiple-driver loudspeaker systems in enclosures consisting of planar, polygonal nonabsorbent surfaces. The program computes free-field amplitude and phase responses and polar and energy responses of the loudspeaker.
