Theory and Real-Time Implementation of Time-Varying Digital Audio Filters

Document Thumbnail

Digital audio filters with time-varying parametric features are analyzed, and their realization via recursive difference equations with updated coefficients is examined. The errors and distortions occurring during parameter transitions are evaluated, and their audible components are estimated using a computational model of the auditory masking mechanism. A description of real-time implementation for the TMS 32020 microprocessor is also given, with tests for estimating the lower transition step limits so that a continuous parametric variation can be emulated.
