A Suggested Method for Measuring Tape Modulation Noise

Document Thumbnail

By recording identical signals on two tracks of a stereo tape recorder, and cancelling the signals in playback, modulation noise could (ideally) be measured directly. However, adequate cancellation places severe restrictions on the tape motion of a magnitude that has made it impossible to obtain satisfactory results. A discussion of the difficulties and possible solutions comprises the main portion of the paper.
