The modeling of low-frequency nonlinear distortion in the response of an electrodynamic loudspeaker by a Volterra series expansion is described, an extension of ordinary linear network theory. A nonlinear inversion circuit based on the Volterra series expansion, which is capable of reducing the nonlinearities in the response, is described theoretically. The harmonic and intermodulation distortion products of an actual loudspeaker have been calculated using this tool. The distortion curves predicted by the model and the measured distortion curves show a reasonable agreement.
