Coherence is a frequency-domain measure of common (that is, statistically linearly dependent) spectral components between the input and the output of a system. Coherence loss indicates the cumulative effect of noise, nonlinear distortion, and time-base distortion. Using appropriate digital signal processing techniques, it is possible to isolate and measure these three forms of signal degradation. All linear distortions are also predictable.
