Influence of Posture on the Spatial Localization of Sound

The perceptual localization of sound often is thought to depend solely on the pattern of auditory cues at the ears. Evidence is presented that the computation of auditory direction also involves nonauditory information from visual, vestibular, tactile, and proprioceptive sources concerning the spatial configuration of the entire body. Likewise, auditory stimulation can influence the apparent orientation of the body.
