Optimum Loudspeaker Placement Near Reflecting Planes

Document Thumbnail

The low-frequency performance of a loudspeaker is affected by its position near a corner of a room. An idealized case of monopole source near three reflecting planes has been used to model this behavior. For a closed-box loudspeaker with a second-order high-pass response certain optimum positions near a corner have been identified. At these optimum positions the total power radiated shows minimum deviation from a flat response. The low-frequency cutoff point is lowered by two-thirds of an octave.
