A Hi-Fi Moving-Magnet Cartridge Using Recent Technology

Document Thumbnail

A high-performance moving-magnet cartridge of the one-point suspension type, employing a disk-shaped high-energy samarium-cobalt magnet, is described. The major feature of this cartridge is the pure-boron tapered-pipe cantilever which contributes to a low effective moving mass (0.098 mg). Another feature is the damper material, which resists temperature changes by virtue of its viscous-elastic characteristics. For magnetic transfer, the cartridge employs mirror-polished hot-pressed ferrite, which exhibits excellent frequency-response characteristics. These developments result in a cartridge with a frequency response of 5 Hz to 100 kHz, low mechanical impedance, and improved tracking ability.
