An algorithm for the estimation of first- and second-order parametric filter functions of the type used in parametric equalization networks is developed. Linear least squares estimation techniques are used to successively estimate filter sections until a high-order system which closely matches the inverse of the measured acoustic frequency response is generated. Problems with the realizability of estimated filter functions are considered. Results are presented in the form of estimated filter sets and corrected response functions for actual acoustical frequency response data.
