Active Equalization of Closed-Box Loudspeaker Systems

Document Thumbnail

A technique is described which can be used to extend the low-frequency response of a closed-box loudspeaker system by the use of an auxiliary active equalizer which converts the overall system response to that of a fourth-order Butterworth alignment. The technique can be applied to any closed-box system having a quality factor less than 1.31. For a closed-box system with a second-order Butterworth response, the technique extends the system lower -3 dB frequency by a factor of 1.85, or 0.886 of an octave.
