A three-tone intermodulation test for transient intermodulation distortion (TIM) and related forms of dynamic nonlinearity is proposed. The test employs three tones to simultaneously produce even-order and odd-order distortion products near 1 kHz. This makes possible the use of extremely simple, yet sensitive instrumentation. A significant advantage of the test is that both stimulus and response lie in band.
