A Dynamic Noise Reducer for Sum-Difference Multiplex Systems

Document Thumbnail

A means of reducing the apparent noise in systems employing sum-difference multiplexing with no alteration of frequency response is presented. The method takes interchannel separation a function of program level, exchanging separation for an improved signal-to-noise ratio at low volume levels. The psychoacoustic and electronic principles behind its operation and the qualitative results of listening tests on several versions are given.
