A Proposed AM Stereo Broadcasting System

Document Thumbnail

A newly developed AM stereo broadcasting system is introduced. It offers the advantage of saving a certain frequency band since the modulated wave has a single sideband with a carrier in mono transmission and double sidebands in stereo transmission. If this technique is extended in an -FAM- system, it offers another important advantage that, when a signal is panned between L-R for intensity stereophony, and when that signal is reproeuced in mono by a most common receiver with an envelope detector, the output level remains constant. A theoretical analysis of the modulated wave and its reception are presented based on the results of computer simulations.
