Emile Berliner, Eldridge Johnson, and the Victor Talking Machine Company

Berliner's disc records became competitive with cylinders after Johnson produced a spring motor for the Gramaphone. When legal restraints forced Berliner Gramaphone to cease sales, Johnson began his own manufacturing company for records and instruments. For the next quarter century the Victor Talking Machine Company because the industry leader by offering a quality product combined with intensive sales and advertising policies.
