The Musician and the Record

The response of the musician to the introduction, growth and maturity of recorded sound is reviewed. As the technology evolved, the musician's fears of unemployment due to automation were eventually realized. Following the subsequent turbulent period which has severe impact on the musician, the recording industry and the public alike, an accommodation has been reached which appears to be satisfactory to all.
