The side-fringing response of magnetic heads is analyzed using results of recent calculations of three-dimensional side-fringing fields. It is shown that the two-dimensional distance-loss formula, when used for the calculation of the side-fringing response, exaggerates the loss figures up to 30% (2.4 dB). Normalized graphs are presented showing the corrections to be applied to the response without fringing in order to get the response with fringing.
