Improvement of the Noise Characteristics of Amplifiers for Magnetic Transducers

Document Thumbnail

Magnetic transducers are used in many types of audio equipment such as phono cartridges and tape or cassette recorders. They generally must be shunted by a damping resistor to give a flat frequency response. This often contributes to a large extent to the total system noise. A method is presented for the design of preamplifiers that greatly reduces this source of noise, giving an improvement of 3-6 dB in typical weighted signal-to-noise ratios.
