The Human Finger-A Versatile Electronic Musical Instrument Component

The achievement of continuous real-time manual control over sound parameters is perhaps the most important problem currently facing electronic musical instrument designers. The -touch sensor- mechanisms that have been used in recent years are reviewed. Next, the electrical and physiological properties of the human finger are discussed. An experimental keyboard affording the performer touch control of three independent axes on each key is illustrated.
