Although artificial-head (dummy-head) recordings offer precise sound localization and presence, they are generally restricted to 2-channel recording and headphone listening. A new technique is described which electronically synthesizes the paramteres of an artificial head so that it is possible to utilize multitrack recordings which were made without using an artificial head. Also described is a signal-processing technique which makes it possible to enjoy binaural recordings through loudspeakers. The technique applies to quadraphonic sound as well. In either case, the process actually takes place during the mixdown session.
