While considerable attention has been paid to the effects of room acoustics on the reproduction of wavelengths comparable to room dimensions, little attention has been given to temporal relationships among the loudspeaker, the room, and the listener in listening rooms with volumes under 400 m(3). It can be shown that the broadband virtual image created by a 2-channel sound-reproduction system is highly dependent for its clarity on the directional characteristics of the loudspeaker.
