Reverberation time is one of the important criteria for concert halls. One may argue that it is not the most important, but since it is the property of a room that is most accessible to calculation and measurement, it is more familiar to everyone than other criteria. In the restoration of the large hall of the Stockholm Concert House, the planning included an increase in the reverberation time to make the hall better suited for classical music. Calculations indicated that it was just possible to reach this goal. There was, however, a desire to have the possibility to exceed the optimum value and to have a still longer reverberation time. This was accomplished through a multichannel reverberation-amplification system making use of the natural reverberation in the hall. Although this system has not yet been finally adjusted, it is shown to have advantages over other systems.
