Occupied bandwidth, interference between stations, and transmitter service area are discussed using a discrete four-channel modulation model for VHF/FM broadcasting in terms of sideband power distribution, time rate of out-of-band emission, protection ratio, and signal-to-noise ratio, in comparison with two other proposed modulation systems. The conclusion is that an additional guardband and extra transmitter are not necessary to broadcast discrete four-channel sound on present two-channel broadcasting systems.
