In an ordinary cathode-coupled phase inverter, the control grid of the seocnd tube is grounded for ac signal. If this grid is driven properly, the tendency of the phase inverter toward self-balance is improved so that it can be used very satisfactorily to drive a single-ended push-pull stage. In this paper, the modified cathode-coupled phase inverter is analyzed; practical examples of single-ended push-pull amplifiers in which it is used as a phase-inverter driver are described.
