Multichannel Stereo Matrix Systems: An Overview

Document Thumbnail

In increasing profusion, -4-2-4- matrix playback systems are being introduced to an already confused market place. All of these systems fall short of the -four-channel- performance claimed for them, but many of them are surprisingly accurate in their recreation of auditory perspective around the compass. This paper will examine the basic properties of 4-2-4 matrices along with some of the embellishments which have been used to improve their performance. Finally, higher order matrix systems will be examined briefly.
