The issues involved in the design of a miniature mixing console compression system are described. The module has provision to allow the engineer to adjust both the static and dynamic characteristics of the compression algorithm. The system incorporates many advanced multifunction feedback configurations using modern integrated circuits in order to achieve performance comparable to rack-sized equipment. For example, the input and output transformers use third-winding flux feedback in order to reduce the transformer size without sacrificing quality. Also, shunt-regulated internal power supplies allow the unit to operate in any console whose voltages differ by at least 24 volts and no ac current appears on the power-supply feed.
