Part 1 of this paper provides a basic low-frequency analysis of the closed-box loudspeaker system with emphasis on small-signal and large-signal behavior, basic performance limitations, and the determination of important system parameters from voice-coil impedance measurements. Part 2 discusses some important implications of the findings of Part 1 and introduces the subject of system synthesis: the complete design of loudspeaker systems to meet specific performance goals. Given a set of physically-realizable system performance specifications, the analytical results of Part 1 enable the system designer to calculate directly the required specifications of the system components.
