Recording Sound Photographically on Paper Disks

The photodisk record system described uses paper records on which an audio signal is printed as a continuous spiral line of varying blackness. The records are played on a machine similar to an ordinary phonograph record player, with the exception that the pickup arm does not touch the photodisk record. Afeasibility model has been built which records and plays back approximately seven minutes of 50-3000-Hz audio signal on an 8-inch disk of photographic enlarging paper. A possible application is the recording of educational audio material at low cost.
