Instrumentation and Methods of Violin Testing

The violin has yet to be documented completely by a single objective test method. Advantages and disadvantages of useful ways to vibrate and measure its acoustical characteristics are described: Inputs via hand bowing, machine bowing, and electromechanical transducers; displays using microphone pickups and appropriate components for loudness curves, harmonic analyses, and swept frequency measurements; also techniques of optical proximity detection and hologram interferometry.
