Apparatus for Generating Serial Sound Structures

Document Thumbnail

The National Research Council of Canada and the University of Toronto are studying the role of a serial sound structure generator (SSSG) in the electronic music studio. The SSSG is an electronic system designed to apply serial logic to accessible parameters which characterize musical sounds and to present the resulting sound for evaluation by the composer. It is not intended to produce complete compositions. This paper describes some of the configurations of the SSSG system which have been found useful so far and some of the special sub-devices which have been developed for use in it.
