Third-Order Gradient Microphone for Speech Reception

Document Thumbnail

The design and performance characteristics of a third-order gradient microphone are described. Its exceptional mid-band audio directivity is compared to theoretically derived response characteristics. The system employs four capacitive transducers coupled to low-noise RF bridge circuitry. Portable control electronics allows selection of both unidirectional and bidirectional response in the second- and third-order mode.
