For determining the reluctance of gaps in magnetic circuits, an approximation method is suggested which is deduced from an exact calculation. It is demonstrated that the contribution of the stray field to the total reluctance is proportional to the reciprocal of the logarithm of the ratio between the maximum length of the stray-field lines and the gap length.
