A Low-Noise Transistorized Tape Playback Amplifier

Document Thumbnail

A tape playback amplifier has been developed which shows a 6 to 10 db improvement in noise level over the best vacuum-tube equipment presently available. For the system described, the over-all unweighted amplifier noise level is 62 db below tape reference level (corresponding approximately to 1% tape distortion), or about 76 db below tape saturation level. With the amplifier output feeding a 600-ohm line at a maximum level of +26 dbm, distortion is under 0.25% at all frequencies.
