Modeling Acoustic Wind Instruments with Contiguous Group Synthesis

Document Thumbnail

A contiguous group synthesis model for wind instruments is introduced. The model is intuitive since it uses a single spectrum to describe each part of an instrument's range. Predefined amplitude envelopes control the desired articulation and ensure that the tone gets brighter with increasing amplitude. We give the parameters for 27 western and Chinese wind instruments, and listening test results confirm the effectiveness of the matches. The model is especially suited to creating hybrid instruments and timbral interpolation.
