This paper discusses the evolution of miniature batteries dueing the last fifteen years, with particular reference to high energy density systems; the development of battery systems and battery configurations; consistent with the rapidly changing needs, the influence of new electrical components, circuitry and end item philosophy; and the design parameters utilized to provide definitive operating characteristics tailored to miniaturized circuits.
