Absolute Calibration of Pickups and Records

Document Thumbnail

By synchronizing the turntable with a curve tracer, and using constant-frequency bands it is possible to obtain a continuous and absolute calibration of the frequency-response of a pickup without including wavelength-dependent playback loss. An absolute calibration of a sweep-frequency tone band can also be obtained by this method, independent of the frequency response of the pickup, however, wavelength-dependent playback loss is included. The calibration of CBS Laboratories STR-130 RIAA test record produced in this manner is described.
