In the Summer of 1965 production was started on a newly developed high frequency compression horn which uses a lead zirconate, lead titanate length expander as a direct driver. A high stiffness diaphragm matches the high mechanical impedance of the driver to the throat of the horn. The basic thoughts that lead to the development of the ceramic driving system are presented. Also, the final design and performance of this high frequency horn are discussed in detail.
