A portable audiometer has been designed so that calibration may be performed without auxiliary equipment. The procedure used to calibrate consists of putting all major functions in series and reading the output on a VU meter. The calibration procedure will not pinpoint the malfunction, should there be one, but will show that a malfunction exists. The general procedure may be expanded to other acoustical instruments.
