A reinforced olefin polymer diaphragm having a high specific modulus, high mechanical loss tangent, and high flexural rigidity is described and its application to loudspeakers is discussed. Compared with diaphragms of conventional paper cone material, the specific modulus and the flexural rigidity are three times as great, and the mechanical loss tangent is equal or greater. The polymer diaphragm is dimensionally more stable. With the new material it is possible to mold loudspeakers from woofer diaphragms to tweeter diaphragms quickly and accurately, and to realize a wide frequency response and low distortion.
