A new method of measuring transient intermodulation distortion with a sawtooth signal is described, and its advantages are compared with the conventional method using a square-sine signal. Both kinds of tests on five amplifiers show that 1) the new method produces results closely related to those obtained with the conventional method, but yields an improvement in detection capability of over 50 dB, and 2) it permits isolation of transient intermodulation distortion from static distortions such as total harmonic and intermodulation distortions.
