In recent years, there has been growing interest in the possibilities of applying pulse, or -class D-, techniques to Audio amplification. Theoretically, pulse amplification is attractive, because it offers solutions to some problems which traditionally plague designers of linear, efficient power amplifiers. Nearly all suggested circuits, appearing in the literature, share a common burden of complexity, and are often the result of attempts to apply cumbersome discrete transistor techniques to the generation and amplification of pulse waveform. Monolithic logic circuits are now widely available, which are not only capable of simplifying and consolidating pulse generation, but of providing moderate amounts of power output, to directly drive a loudspeaker.
