Variable Acoustics by Wavefield Synthesis: A Closer Look at Amplitude Effects

Document Thumbnail

The wavefield synthesis concept is highly suitable to accomplish variable acoustics, for it is capable of generating sound fields with full control of the temporal and spatial properties. By applying linear arrays instead from planar arrays, deviations of the proper spatial amplitude distribution occur. In this paper, the physical and perceptual consequences of these amplitude deviations are quantified, and different strategies are presented to reduce the mean square error for a given receiver area.
