The Quality of Speech Transmission in a Background of Music and Effects in Audio-Visual Programs

Document Thumbnail

The subject of this paper concerns the results of subjective experiments on improvement of quality of speech transmission in a background of other elements of a final soundtrack in audio-visual programs. The purpose of the experiments was to examine the influence of different factors on speech intelligibility and timbral quality. These factors were 1) signal processing of speech and accompanying music or sound effects, 2) vision of talker's face (especially at the large schedule), and 3) directional perception of speech and other elements of the soundtrack in multichannel sound systems.
