Understanding the Transfer Functions of Directional Condenser Microphones in Response to Different Sound Sources

Document Thumbnail

This paper will provide analytical insight into how -proximity effect- arises in general condenser directional microphones (i.e., combination pressure/pressure-gradient). Characteristics will be demonstrated through the presentation of simple model transfer functions in order to gain insight and quantify frequency and directional response behavior as a function of simple excitation sources. The three-dimensional nature of directional microphones will be illustrated.
