Azimuth errors occur in analogue tape machines when the angle between the gap in the head and the tape direction is not exactly 90 degrees. In this paper we describe the causes and effects of misaligned heads and dynamic changes of the azimuth angle. Furthermore, we will show adaptive digital solutions for azimuth correction in the time- and frequency-domain.
