In this paper, a systematic approach of the concept of class-D amplification is presented. It is pointed out that the classical concept involving pulse-width modulation is insufficient for high performance audio systems. A new system is proposed being free of baseband distortion and permitting low switching rates. The system applies a novel modulation process based on so called click modulation. Simulation and measurement results will be discussed.
